Venturing Out

With a kind invitation & a visit from my cousin,
we ventured to the South Devon coastline,
heading for Dartmouth.

Wonderful to just take the time
to gaze at the boat activity,
from vehicle ferries to  small vessels,
 although  much quieter
 compared to the summer months.

With a walk out of the main town,
 we headed towards the entrance
 of the River Dart,
 emerging into the wide open
expanse of sea

The entrance was also the location
for the Dartmouth Castle,
not over big,
but closed due to the seasonal holidays.

As we stumbled along the coastal path,
 we passed Castle Cove,
 easily accessible by steps.
A wonderful sound,
to hear the lapping motion of the waves,
 relatively calm  & relaxing.

Although the weather
was not that bright during our drive to the coast
& through one stage of our walk,
the weather later improved.
The temperature may have dropped a few degrees,
but we felt lucky with the blueness of the skies!

Truly lovely to get the chance of some bracing freshair,
an enjoyable walk after
some excessive eating due to the festive season!

  1. What a wonderful get-away! I love these pictures. Devon looks to be a charming, lovely place. I'm wondering if you stayed in that inn.

  3. Vicki, a truly lovely location, you can't go far wrong visiting the south coast. This trip was just for the day, but very enjoyable.

Darlin, we've only had a very small amount of snow on the hills this winter in the south west of England. We're had relatively mild weather compared to other winters. Our last 2 winters, we've had more snow, although I mustn't speak too soon....;)

  4. I love to walk by the sea especially after the Christmas festivities. We were in Dartmouth a few years ago and are thinking of having a short holiday in Devon in 2012 possibly May.Your photographs are excellent and a good promotion of Devon. Wishing you a very happy New Year. My blog was closed for a while but I am now up and running again. Jackie.
