Interrupted

With the visit to the Nature Reserve, 

mean't walking & exploring the new walkway

I walked the majority of this 

& even though

 I saw the original path in sight,

 my walk was completely interrupted.

But, although I nearly completed the walk 

& I could see the emerging pathway,

I  was not able to walk pass the male swan,

 protecting a nest of 7 cygnets.

The closer I got,

 the more the Swan would react

 by hissing & movements towards myself.

Although the male

 may have been protecting on the mainland,

the female was just the other side of the nest,

on the waterway.

Definitely good parenting skills to be admired.

Two Swans were protecting & overseeing their babies.

Whilst one remained on the water, 

the other one on land was ensuring 

no one was going to pass by!

My walk may have been interrupted,

but it was definitely worth back tracking.

A good end to my Sunday afternoon.

Re-visit with surprises

For many months, 

I have not visited Greylake Nature Reserve

 on the Somerset Levels.

And much to my surprise, with my latest recent visit,

I discovered that the Reserve 

has been made more accessible for people,

 with a new walk further around the reed beds.

I visited on a very windy but sunny day.

The views from the Reserve

 presented beautiful views 

of a Somerset landscape.

With recent downpours, 

an excess of water still existed.

The extra walk way

 thoroughly enhanced 

my trek around the Reserve, 

I will certainly enjoy my next visit, 

hopefully soon. . . .

A Church with a View

A church emerging from the hillside to overlook the surrounding countryside,

with the heights of Exmoor in the background.

On a good day, the landmark of Dunkery Beacon is visible,

the highest point in Somerset.



Nosey by Nature

On another part of the farm,

I was introduced to the baby goats....

Very cute in their character,

 always interested in visitors at the side of their penn

The next barn,

 so much larger,

I had quite an audience!

So many,

 mainly white goats,

 although occasionally,

a different colour & breed emerged,

 to look over the barn penn fence.

I think I was fortunate not  to be in the penn with them,

I don't think my camera would have survived!

All sooo full of character!

Evenso,

I fully appreciated this opportunity to become so close

 to some of the farm animals.

It really did prove,

 they are just as individual as us humans.

Up Close

Recently, I had a request from a friend,

 to photograph some of the farm animals,

 where she lived with her partner.

This mean't getting into a barn

 with cows & their calves.

This really was up close...!

Even had one of the larger calfs following me around,

nudging me at every opportunity for attention,

 that was some hefty nudge aswell!

The calf definitely wanted my attention!

The photographs are to be a surprise for her partners birthday,

With some to become prints for their home.

The session didn't just end with cows!?!

The Library. . . .

A very welcoming room with warm tones,

 comfort uppermost,

 to beable to enjoy

 such a choice & wealth of books!

I just hope some of the books

 were aswell used as what they looked.

The huge desk at the back of the room,

weights at the ready to calculate the postage weight.

The wonderful marble fireplace,

flanked by a handcrafted embroidered chair.

Anyone for a game of Chess?

located  by one of the large windows,

 overlooking some of the gardens.

Inviting. . . .

The interior of Dunster Castle 

 is so full of timeless character,

 & fortunately,

 the public are able to capture some

of the wonderful intricate craftmanship of this stately home,

as photography is permitted,

 providing flash is not used.

Downstairs definitely on a grand scale,

more to follow. . . .

During August....

A quick walk around the natural countryside of Hestercombe,

 not alot of time with the camera this month,

 due to my Mother having to be hospitalised for a week,

 with an operation cancelled 4 times. 

 But risk involved. 

 Now a reprive with her at home,

 awaiting a further date for an operation. 

I've taken her to these gardens on several occasions,

 although her walking is restricted,

 she has enjoyed the tranquility of this special place.

 

Last hints of summer with the butterflies,

although with an extremely fleeting visit last Sunday,

I noticed some caterpillars on some of the flowers.

Caterpillars not my favourite,

 but I do love the end result!

But,

 a shock during August was the signs of Autumn,

 starting to slip in.

One of the vines was already starting to change their colour,

 from green to red.

I truly can find wonderful things associated with each individual season,

but what I do find incomprehensable this year,

 is how quick the year has gone,
