A New Month, a New Day!

With an early start, Saturday 1st Octbober,

 a low level of mist lingered on the ground,

but with definite promises of a gloroius day!

As the sun begun to rise,

 so did a collection of colour

A very tiny flower,

also featured in the previous collage.

But when up close, a flower worth much appreciation,

particarlurly with partciles of dew,

 clingling to it's every available petal!

The sun rose to give us such a beautiful warm day!

What a start to October!

Weekend Blessings

The flower above,

a member of the Dandelion family,

 a common weed & yet,

when photographed becomes a real beauty!

And the common daisy,

so many in my lawns,

but they look so fresh & wonderful!

Lets hope this weekend will bring plenty of sunshine & warm weather!

We certainly have to make the most of it,

 already noticing the evenings starting to get darker earlier,

& yet I feel we haven't had much of a summer yet.

Bluebell Walk

All photos taken on my recent walk at

 Hestercombe Gardens, Somerset,

a section of woods,

 which isn't normally open to the general public,

 was open specifically

for the viewing of the Bluebell season.

In amongst the trees, just a haze of blue.

May Day on the Somerset Levels

Masses of Hawthorn blooms,

blossom of any variety a welcomed sight on May Day

Travelling through the Somerset countryside,

hedgerows a riot of colour with wildflowers

A visit at the Greylake Nature Reserve,

small but worthy of a walk

Whilst strolling along the wooden walkways,

listening to the wealth of a variety of bird sounds,

the Cuckoo acknowledged clearly that he was

in the area with his distinctive birdsong.

Captured @ Easter. . . .

A cockerel -  definitely someone to

 break the quietness of the day!

An appropriate image with this Easter weekend

But it has a companion with  the chicken,

both strutting it's stuff

Viewing golden yellow Tulips, in amongst flower beds,

dramatically presented with the deep orange of wallflowers.

Large masses of Narcissi

still exsisting this season. . . .

To woodland areas of blue,

dominated by the seasonal Bluebell,

a much welcomed sight!

Horses lazily soaking up the rays of the sun.

Too the amazing sound of the  birds in the garden,

particurlarly noticeable first thing in the morning,

All enjoyable moments from the Easter Weekend!

Discovering...

With this time of year, the thought of seeing anything with colour,

feels like it's none exsistent, but certainly not the case,

as I discovered on recent walks.

~   ~   ~

 A visit to Dunster, Somerset,

I took a walk around the walked garden.

Amazed to see the delicate pink blossom! 

Although,

 it has definitely suffered,

 with the recent wet & cold weather,

 tinged brown! 

  Another colour,

 yellow was also a feature,

 at local Hestercombe Gardens,

 particularly with the

'Christmas  Box' shrub above.

The brightness of the flowers above,

 was also a surprise to discover at this time of year.

Nestled & sheltered by stone walls leading to steps,

the discovery of these beautiful minature Iris's

was a complete surprise.

Definitely amazing to see!

In crevices of the stone walls at Hestercombe,

new plant life was emerging & thriving.

Although still in the midst of winter,

these sightings were such a comfort,

 with the thoughts of a new season to come.

Changing Seasons

The fields of corn are cut with haybales waiting to be stored. . . .

Changes occurring,

Acorns gathering,

 leaf colour decomposing,

 from lush greens to deepening copper browns. . . .

 Beautiful flowers on the Bramble,

 the Blackberry fruits ripening, delicious. . . .

Something to definitley catch the eye,

 a stunning toadstool of brilliant red,

the red cap speckled with white flecks.

Believe it's called Fly Agaric,

so large in size but nestled in the long grass. . . .

A pair of Ladybirds hanging onto the flower of compact rush. . . .

With the sun shining,

an array of butterflies were much in evidence. . .

The Comma shares a flowerhead of Buddleia with a Swallow Tail. . .

 

The Speckled Brown butterfly also emerging to enjoy the remainder of the day



Such lovely visions to savour on this countryside walk,

A warm day with brilliant sunshine,

providing outstanding views of our wonderful countryside
