Venturing Out

With a kind invitation & a visit from my cousin,

we ventured to the South Devon coastline,

heading for Dartmouth.

Wonderful to just take the time

 to gaze at the boat activity,

from vehicle ferries to  small vessels,

 although  much quieter

 compared to the summer months.

With a walk out of the main town,

 we headed towards the entrance

 of the River Dart,

 emerging into the wide open

expanse of sea

The entrance was also the location

for the Dartmouth Castle,

not over big,

but closed due to the seasonal holidays.

As we stumbled along the coastal path,

 we passed Castle Cove,

 easily accessible by steps.

A wonderful sound,

 to hear the lapping motion of the waves,

 relatively calm  & relaxing.

Although the weather

was not that bright during our drive to the coast

& through one stage of our walk,

the weather later improved. 

 The temperature may have dropped a few degrees,

 but we felt lucky with the blueness of the skies!

Truly lovely to get the chance of some bracing freshair,

an enjoyable walk after

 some excessive eating due to the festive season!

A Coastal Viewpoint

With a visit to a National Trust property,

lead to a wonderful view of  some of Devon's county coastline!

Coleton Fishache,

house & gardens,

 the walk down the steep incline

led to advantageous views of the coast.

Following a walk along part of the coastal path,

it transpired into some wonderful views,

 just wish there had been longer to view some more,

another time perhaps.

Coastal Landscape @ Kilve

Wonderful to just watch the energy of the sea

With a stroll along the beach,

with such an impressive natural rock formation

At times, watching your footing,

with the masses of seaweed,

& slippery rocks

@ Kilve, Somerset.

Coastal Walk

Wonderful weather for the walk at Kilve.

A brilliant location for natural rock formation & if you're lucky,

to find a fossil, like the one I found well imbedded into the rock.

A place that attracts many to photograph this part of the coastline.

Part of the walk was along the coastal path, high above the beach.

A place certainly not without danger, as in one place,

it was evident that part of the path had eroded away.

But, the height certainly gave way to a

 magnificant viewof the rock formations below

Very tranquil & relaxing....much needed.

Quiet Thoughts....

Visited the white church, St Marys the Virgin at Kilve,

 while on a coastal walk & a relaxing time with the cameras.

A very tranquil setting,

 surrounded by beautiful countryside

& the sea just a short walk away.

The churchyard accommodated

 a wooden bench sheltered by the stone wall.

A place to think & reflect of loved ones, past & present.

My personal thoughts were with my Mother,

aged 87.

 who has been in such pain this pass week.

Wednesday, she was rushed into hospital

& now awaits treatment for the removal of gallstones.

But, although I feel things have been personally difficult this week,

My heart also goes out to all those,

 whom have lost their life in the natural disaster in Japan!

Effected so many people & famillies,

with such destruction to people & the country.

Quiet thoughts & prayers definitely also go to them....

Hallloween

Resting places of a Grave Yard looking out to sea,

views taken on recent coastal walks of the North Devon coast.

Remote & distance enough from the village of Morte,

I'm sure it will be spooky enough on a dark Halloween night....

The huge gates to Morte Point,

 & the village church,

 also reflects sinister images.

Mencing rock formations add to the aptmosphere of  a dark spooky night.

Lets hope there isn't too many creepy, scary moments for the vulnerable & elderly,

 with children or teenagers at their doors in the darkness of night!

Around Exmoor

A trip around Exmoor,

 leads to delightful sights of wandering sheep to wild Exmoor ponies,

 besides the beautiful landscapes that can be stunningly viewed. 

On the boundaries of Devon & Somerset takes us to County Gate,

A lovely quaint cafe,

 made of local stone is situated right on the border of these two counties,

one half of the cafe is situated in Devon,

while the other half is situated in Somerset.

The vertical stone pillar divides the cafe into two,

distinguishing these two counties.

Views spied from various locations over Exmoor,

 extends from the countryside to coastal waters that on a clear day,

 Wales, can be visibly seen.

Cornish Coastline. . . .

Lobster pots gathered. . . .

The mooring of boats within the harbour boundaries. . . .

The elements exposed to the weather,

 in much evidence that enhances the charm of Boscastle. . . .

At the end of the walk through the village,

leads to a glimpse of the Cornish Coastline. . . .

Rugged & unforgiving. . . .

If only there was time to explore more. . . .

A Coastal Retreat

Recently visited a coastal cornish village nestled in a valley.

Back in August 2004, due to  

sudden weather conditions, flash flooding

 caused utter devastation to peoples lives & their property.

Following years of renovation, & the local famillies rebuilding their lives,

the beautiful village has certainly managed to regain it's unique charm. 

  

A shop owner even showed us how much

 of his shop had been completely washed away,

with photos of the destruction much in evidence.

 

The street's  final destination leds you to the harbour,

 with an array of boats moored in the safe boundaries of the harbour walls.

The above wooden beam is carved with the inscription of,

'Rising river rushes by'

~This was situated outside the visitors centre~

Memories of the flood,

 I'm sure,

 will live on in the memories

of those that live in such a pretty location.
